Aug 26, 2026

The Development Agency of Serbia presented Serbia’s investment climate and investment opportunities, with a focus on connecting Serbian and Canadian companies

BELGRADE, August 25, 2026 – The Development Agency of Serbia (RAS) presented Serbia’s investment potential and business opportunities during a meeting between representatives of Serbian institutions and the business community and a delegation of the Canada–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group, held in Belgrade. The discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation, new investments, technology partnerships and direct connections between companies from the two countries.

The presentation of Serbia’s investment climate was delivered by Nemanja Jevtović, RAS representative, who presented Canadian partners with Serbia’s competitive advantages, investment opportunities and potential for implementing new projects across various sectors. Particular attention was given to areas offering opportunities for stronger economic ties, ranging from IT and digital technologies, agriculture and food processing to energy, mining, biotechnology and advanced technologies.

The aim of RAS’s presentation was to highlight concrete investment and cooperation opportunities in Serbia for Canadian partners, as well as the support mechanisms available to investors and companies interested in operating in the Serbian market.

Mihailo Vesović, Vice President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, said there was significant potential to further strengthen the good relations between the two countries through concrete business opportunities, investments and partnerships between Serbian and Canadian companies.

“Serbia and Canada already have economic cooperation that is delivering results, but we believe it can be significantly broader and stronger. Our goal is to move from discussions about potential to concrete business projects, more investment, more technology partnerships and more direct connections between companies,” Vesović said.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of companies from the IT and digital sectors, metal and electrical industries, defense industry, agriculture and food processing, livestock farming, the scientific research sector, aeronautics and advanced technologies, creating opportunities for direct engagement and potential business connections.

The Canadian delegation was led by Ned Kuruc, Chair of the Canada–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group, who expressed interest in strengthening economic relations and establishing new business partnerships. Serbian companies were invited to take advantage of the potential of the Canadian market, expand their operations and establish connections with Canadian partners.

Canadian Ambassador to Serbia Michelle Cameron highlighted the Embassy’s support for strengthening business ties between the two economies, while Serbia’s Ambassador to Canada Stefan Tomašević underscored the importance of the direct Belgrade - Toronto air route in intensifying contacts and creating new opportunities for cooperation. An important step in this direction was the Serbia–Canada Business Forum, held in Toronto in May this year, which brought together representatives of companies, institutions and business associations from both countries.

According to statistical data, total trade between Serbia and Canada reached USD 121.6 million in 2025, with Serbia recording a USD 19.1 million surplus. Significant potential also exists in the services sector, with total services trade between the two countries amounting to EUR 433 million, and Serbia recording a EUR 125 million surplus. Information and communication services are among the most significant components of Serbia’s exports to Canada.

Canadian investments in Serbia over the past 16 years have reached nearly EUR 200 million, while 112 business entities with majority Canadian ownership operate in Serbia.

The existing level of trade and investment cooperation provides a strong foundation for further development. In this process, the Development Agency of Serbia continues to support potential investors and companies interested in doing business in Serbia, while also connecting the domestic business community with international partners.
