Six Distilleries, One Tradition: Serbia at ProWein 2026

Feb 26, 2026

Serbia will participate in ProWein 2026 in Düsseldorf with six distilleries, presenting authentic Serbian fruit rakija to the international market as a premium product defined by strong identity, rich tradition, and growing export potential

Serbia will be featured at ProWein in Düsseldorf, one of the world’s leading trade fairs for wines and spirits, taking place from March 15 to 17, 2026. Within the ProSpirits segment, Serbia will present authentic fruit rakija as a premium-quality product with clear origin, distinctive identity, and an increasingly strong international presence.

The national participation is organized by the Development Agency of Serbia (RAS) with the aim of further strengthening exports, opening new markets, and positioning Serbian rakija within the premium segment of the global spirits industry.

At the national stand, six renowned Serbian distilleries will be featured: Stara Sokolova, Tzuga, Destilerija Blagojević, Gorda, Šurlan and Podrum Pevac. Each brings an authentic expression of regional origin, family tradition, and modern production standards. Their products - rakija and liqueurs, are made exclusively from carefully selected fruit, without added sugar or artificial flavors, using controlled fermentation and distillation processes.

In Serbia, rakija represents more than a drink, it is a part of the country’s cultural identity and social life. In 2022, the tradition of producing Serbian plum brandy (šljivovica) was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, further confirming its cultural and historical significance. This unique combination of heritage and contemporary quality standards gives Serbian rakija a distinctive position on the international market.

A special highlight of the program will be the expert masterclass “Serbian Rakija Connecting People,” scheduled for March 17 during the fair. The masterclass will be led by Dr. Ivan Urošević, an international spirits judge and Vice President of the Serbian Rakija Producers Association. Through a professionally guided tasting and presentation, rakija will be introduced to the international audience as a fusion of tradition, knowledge, and modern market potential.

Participation at ProWein 2026 marks an important step in strategically positioning Serbia as a country of origin for high-quality fruit distillates. The national stand will provide an opportunity to meet distributors, importers, and sommeliers, with a clear goal of further strengthening exports and reinforcing Serbian rakija’s position within the global premium spirits category.
