Belgrade, April 1, 2026 – A delegation from China's Hebei Province, led by Governor Wang Zhengpu, visited Serbia on an official trip where they met with local officials to discuss improving economic and institutional cooperation. The Roundtable on Economic and Trade Cooperation between Hebei Province and the Republic of Serbia brought together high-level representatives from institutions and industries on both sides, with the aim of deepening bilateral relations and concretizing future investment and trade projects.
At the meeting, possibilities for enhancing cooperation in key sectors, including industry, logistics, energy, and agriculture, were discussed. Governor Wang emphasized that Hebei sees Serbia as an important partner in Europe and highlighted the willingness of Chinese companies to expand their presence through new investments and joint projects.
Particular attention was given to improving existing industrial initiatives and launching new forms of cooperation, such as technological exchanges and the development of innovative projects. Participants assessed that there is significant potential to increase trade exchanges and strengthen institutional ties between the two sides.
The roundtable brought together a high-level delegation of Chinese companies, including HBIS Group, HBIS Group Serbia Iron & Steel, Hebei Inland Port Group, Tangshan Shenying Technology Group, Z&S (Hebei) Industrial Development Co., Ltd., and Xian Kong Jielian Electric Co., Ltd.
The Serbian delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Adriana Mesarović, representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Jovana Majstorović from the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Predrag Deretić, team leader for Asia and senior advisor at the Serbian Development Agency, and representatives from relevant institutions.
Predrag Deretić also addressed the participants, presenting the key role of the Serbian Development Agency in improving the investment environment and strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic economy. The Serbian Development Agency provides comprehensive support to investors – from initial interest and site analysis to the realization of investments and further business operations in Serbia. Special focus is placed on the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, fostering innovation, and investing in high-value-added projects and research and development.
It was highlighted that Serbia has been achieving strong results in attracting foreign direct investments, while its strategic partnership with China further contributes to the realization of large infrastructure and industrial projects and strengthening the export orientation of the domestic economy.
The conclusion of the meeting was that Serbia and Hebei Province have significant potential for further deepening cooperation through concrete projects that will contribute to economic growth, industrial development, and strengthening overall bilateral relations.
